Ethics In ChatGPT : The Current State of AI

When I say ethics of ChatGPT, what I'm essentially saying is the ethics of AI. I remember the day when ChatGPT was initially launched and it was amazing. I can just go in and write anything and it would hallucinate and give me some kind of information. I'm not a coder, but I remember writing a piece of a description of the change I want in a website and it would pop up me a code which would work. And it was amazing.

Then within a few days, people started misusing the AI or ChatGPT and it is a natural progression because whatever you do in your life, there will be some kind of misuse or mishaps.

Ethics In Real World

For example, there are knives which are available in the market for cutting the vegetables. Someone can very well buy that knife and do some kind of mishap. So what should the law do or the maker of the knife do? Can they do something?

Can they make it more blunt, but then it might not cut the vegetable properly, but can it not sell it to some kind of people or put all kind of advisors on how to use the knife and how not to use the knife. And that might seem like a good thing, but in reality, what happens is the person who wants to misuse will misuse. So it doesn't work in the sense that you can't restrict the sales of the knife.

Manipulating ChatGPT

In a similar sense, when you think about the ChatGPT, people were asking all kind of things like piracy or all kind of misuse of AI and it was kind of giving the answers.

But in the name of ethics, if you go and manipulate the code of the AI or ChatGPT to restrict it, to restrict it to the full potential, Then you are essentially restricting the ChatGPT.

And yes, there's a case to be made that since ChatGPT is a company and the people can misuse it and there can be all kind of lawsuits and so on and so forth. And that is true in a sense, but there should be a some kind of onus.

They could have simply went ahead and said that whoever is using the ChatGPT is responsible for everything they get of the information and do, because we are all adults and if we're adults, we can get all kind of information in Google also, in the books also, and even in movies also.

How we act on it or how we don't act on it is on us because we are adults. Our excuse can't be that it was easily available because of ChatGPT or ChatGPT gave me some kind of a hack that it was so tempting to use.

That can be excuses and the blame game can't be put on ChatGPT because if that happens, which is happening like in the name of ethics, the ChatGPT is quite limited and also the AI progress because you have to put the blame where the blame is due.

Adulthood Responsibility In Law

If an adult person is doing any kind of mischief, it can't be that you're blaming the tool. You can't blame the knife manufacturers in jail and say that because you made that knife, that's why the person killed someone. That's not how it goes.

The person was killed because an adult person has a mal-intention in his mind and he or she acted upon it and that's the reason they are ones to be blamed and they should be put behind the bars and the law should be acted accordingly.

But nevertheless, with all the limitations and of ChatGPT or AI, I think they could have struck balance and the balance should be as like simple as possible. Of course, you can ban certain kind of things or regulate it, mold it in a certain way. But as long as the humans do it, there will be bias, and when there is a bias, then ethics is out of the window.

So yes, if we want to fine-tune AI or ChatGPT to a certain degree of ethicness or moral values and so on and so forth, it has to be done by another kind of an AI or ChatGPT, which is designed for that and which should not be trained on the human biases and so on and so forth.

That's a difficult task to do. And because of this weird blame-shifting game and because ChatGPT or AI wants to raise millions and millions of dollars and they don't want to get into kind of legal trouble, we have this limitation of ethics in AI. And it seems as if the tool has become much, much bigger than the consciousness of an legal adult.

So that's where the dilemma of ethics in ChatGPT or AI stands. And that's where we need to think very highly or very strongly about it.

What do you guys think ethics stand in ChatGPT or AI?
