Why Do You See Every Product With AI?

Why AI is mostly a buzzword? I remember growing up and going to a store and seeing a new refrigerator, and the salesperson would come and say to me that it is a new technology, it has a radar, and every three years I would go on to buy the refrigerator or just do the window shopping for the refrigerator, and the sales pitch would remain the same, the refrigerator would be the same. However, the buzzword would change.

It would sometimes be tech, sometimes with intense, sometimes it would be automatic, sometimes it would be data-centric, and now all I see it is, it is AI. So the product is the same, but the pitching has changed.

And therefore, I believe AI is a new buzzword. Of course, AI is something revolutionary and its impact and the way it transforms the things cannot be undermined.

That is definitely one part of the equation, but not all the companies have incorporated AI and made their products better, faster, or customer-centric. What they have done is simply changed the pitch of the story and the product is the same.

Now, just whenever they want to sell you, they know that you can get the attention of the customer by using the word AI. And therefore, even your electric fan has an AI mode, and it is just the same automatic mode, but the name is AI because they want to lure you, they want to maybe sell the same product at the same price, or maybe at a higher price now that it has an AI and you believe in the story.

So, the real implications of AI and the usefulness of AI is far ahead, and not all companies would be able to incorporate it because it might not have the use case for it.

For example, for an electric fan to work, you just need the connections and the motor, and that's it. It can become smart, you can call it smart because it can do automatic things with the help of a button, it can switch on and off, or you can make it do n number of things, but it will all be a jargon and of no use because a fan is a fan if it can just rotate and give you wind. That's it.

It has no other applications, and anything else is just a gimmick, or they are trying to sell you something entirely different in the name of a fan. If a fan has a light also, and it can give you news also, it is incorporated with Alexa, then it is no longer a fan.

It is much more, and you are lured into buying something else in the name of a fan. So, this is something which I have been saying time and again. The term keeps changing every era, every 10 years or 5 years, a new buzzword comes, and the buzzword for this decade is going to be AI, and everything you buy, maybe even your pillow, will have it has been made with the help of AI technology.

Nobody knows what is the technology, but you have the AI word in it, and that's where the gimmick lies, and that's where the cautiousness to be there.

Sure, go ahead and learn AI, go ahead and implement AI, and go ahead with the future, but don't fall into the gimmick when everything else just keeps changing their buzzword to AI without actually implementing the AI in the first place.
